Thankful Thursday #6

Some of my cousins and second cousins. Love them!

How are the weeks going by so quickly lately? Seriously, it's Thursday already? What?

Anyway, this week I haven't really thought much about what I'm thankful for, so I'm kind of struggling to write this post, but I think it's because I've had a really good week (in a very ordinary way - i.e.. I was relatively healthy and nothing terrible happened), so this week I am thankful for:

Extended family - I may have mentioned before that I have an absolutely ginormous extended family, and I'm incredibly thankful that at my uncle's 50th on Saturday night I got to see many of them. Get togethers with the Cioffi's are always a memorable and amazing experience. I can't explain my love for my aunts and uncles, my cousins (all 14 of them) and their kids (all 21 of them). It is an amazing thing that our family is so large, yet so close to each other.

Car pooling - one of my friends from school who was a few years younger than me goes to uni the same time as me on Wednesdays and lives about 2 minutes away from me, so we decided to car pool! Besides not having to drive every second Wednesday now, I am so glad of the company on the drive and getting to chat with a friend on the way to uni and back. Still feeling a little on the outer since moving back home, so this simple little thing has helped a lot.

Rain - It's finally cooled dan enough to have soup for dinner and wear jeans over here with the last few days being a rainy and cool 20ish degrees and I'm kinda, surprisingly grateful! I'm a summer baby through and through, but we've had ridiculously hot weather since last September, so I'm feeling grateful for a drop in temperature and an excuse to snuggle on the couch!

Good news - I found out on the weekend that one of my cousins is having a baby in August! I'm so happy for him and his wife! He was my absolute idol growing up and mum always tells this story of how when I was 18 months, I had Giardea and he was only about 12 or something but I wouldn't go to mum or dad or any of my aunties, because I only wanted him and he held me for 5 hours while I screamed my head off in emergency. If anyone needs proof that he is destined to be the most fantastic dad ever, there it is! He will be so great and I'm so excited!

Bloggy Buddies and "Real Life" Buddies

Is it just me, or are bloggers the best people in the entire universe? I have had a really tough year this year that hasn't put me in a very good place mentally, and as I have struggled to make new friends on the Gold Coast I have often sought comfort in the friendships I've found in my online world. Some of these girls have honestly become better friends in my eyes than many of the girls I interact with in my "real life". They have supported me through the tough times I have been having, are always there to talk, and are just generally the most lovely people I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with.

I hold these girls really close to my heart, especially Leona, Ella and Michelle, who have often made my heart feel so full with the kindness and support they have shown me, and who I can't wait to met in person someday. I have always wanted to move to the UK for a while, as I think it would be the most amazing opportunity, and making friends with these amazing bloggers has only intensified this hope for my future. Because these girls have been so amazing to me, I thought I would introduce them to you all in a post. Their blogs are just as amazing as their personalities, so I really hope that you find some new people to follow in this post!

Leona from Oh! Leona

Leona is siriusly my long lost British twin! I love her to no end!
We originally bonded over our love of Paramore, and eventually, when Leona started reading the Harry Potter series for her very first time, I decided to read it again so we could excitedly tweet each other about it, and it cemented our friendship. Now, barely a day goes by that we aren't tweeting or facebooking or whatever, and since we live in completely different timezones, my replies to her tweets in the morning are usually a reminder for her go to bed.
Leona has been there for me through thick and thin, and I can't wait to meet her someday! I'm pretty sure we would be inseparable if we didn't live on opposite sides of the world!
I really hope that you will check out her blog - her Sucky Sunday posts are my absolute favourite ever, and her entire blog is just filled with her awesome personality. She is a gem!

Ella from Hello Ella

Ella has become a bit of a big sister figure to me over the last year. She is my biggest inspiration in life, as she has been through so much and come out the other side such a beautiful, strong woman. We get along so well, and I feel like I can talk to her about anything, which is so comforting. As a fellow autoimmune disease sufferer, she has been a great support this year and has let me know I'm not alone in what I'm going through. That makes a huge difference when you feel like a failure because you can't get out of bed in the morning.
As a blogger, Ella is doing so well! Her style and aesthetic is so similar to mine, so I love everything she posts about. She is a wonderful person and blogger to get to know!

Michelle from Satchels and Pearls

Michelle is another blogger I look toward as a big sister! She is the most lovely person, and we have a lot of common interests. We are even studying the same thing at uni! She has the cutest style ever, is always up for a chat, and I actually can't believe how excited I am over her little New Year's baby, and her gorgeous bump! Her beauty posts are always great, but the highlight of her blog for me is getting a peek at Yorkshire. I dream of the Yorkshire countryside, and will definitely be visiting it with her someday!

Trudie from My Vintage Childhood

If Leona is my bloggy twin, and Ella and Michelle are my bloggy big sisters, Trudie is my blog mumma. She is an amazing woman, and the only blogger I have had the pleasure to meet in real life. I was welcomed into her home with open arms upon moving to the Gold Coast, and as well as enjoying her company, and being inspired by her blog, she has taught me so much about blogging, about vintage, about being true to myself and about life.
Trudie is an op shopping queen and always inspires me to get out there and find something special. She has also inspired me to embark on small business ventures in the future and to just generally be more true to myself. I have so much love and respect for her!

Erica from Being Erica

This picture should sum up why I love Erica perfectly. Just look at all that cuteness in the one photo! She is perfect! As an Aussie who escaped to the UK, she is a massive inspiration of mine, and was also one of the first bloggers I started interacting with. Without her, I wouldn't know Ella, Leona, Michelle or half the other ladies on here who I am so close to now as I found almost all of them through her blog. She is a total babe and I love her to bits!

Libby from Gingerbread Buttons

Another picture that just seems to sum up the lovely lady within and why I love her so much! Libby, being closer to my age than other bloggers I interact with, has become a great friend of mine. We both share a scary obsession with tea, she is the most lovely, quirky little miss that ever did live, and she has a bunny named Bunny. I have serious hair and bunny envy over Libby! Seriously.
Libby's style is so gorgeous and she is one of those genuine personalities who I had no troubles connecting with. She is a treasure.

Kirsty from Indigo Buttons

Doesn't Kirsty just look beautiful here? She is a wee Scottish babe! One of the things I love about Kirsty (besides how quirky/cute she is) is how much of a fellow geek she is! She has my dream job, teaching secondary English, she loves history and is a hardcore bookworm, and I just think she is the greatest ever. I even had a dream that she and her boyfriend, Adam decided to join Jake and I on the trip around Australia next month. Yep, I think she is so great that my sub-conscious decided that I'd like to spend three months in a campervan with her!

I'm sorry for the length of this post - I just didn't want to leave any of these lovely ladies out. They have truly made such a massive, positive impact on my life since I started blogging and  thank them for every bit of kindness they've shown! I hope that I've exposed you to some new blogs, too although if you have taste anything like mine, you probably are already familiar with most of them!

Op Shop Adventures With Trudie

On Friday, I was lucky enough to get to spend the day with a great blog friend of mine, Trudie from My Vintage Childhood, and her gorgeous daughter, Little V. Trudie has been a great supporter of my blog since it's beginning, and I have been anxious to meet her ever since moving to the Gold Coast, where I knew she lived. Despite the age gap, I felt right at home with Trudie on Friday. We chatted like old friends, visited a few of her favourite op shops and I got a tour of her office and a sneaky peek at all the stock she has ready for her Etsy store, which is coming soon and will be selling some very beautiful vintage children's clothes at affordable prices.

It was so great to finally meet a fellow blogger in person! No one quite "gets" a blogger like another blogger does and it was great to take our friendship out into the "real world" and chat about blog stuff, PR, vintage and all other manner of things which I couldn't really chat to my non-blog friends about. It was also great to have an op shop partner for the day! Not many of my real life friends are into op shopping or vintage, so it was great to have someone to chat with over the clothes racks, and to encourage me to step out of my comfort zone and try a few things on. Trudie is set on converting me to a colour-lover as far as my wardrobe goes, and she certainly did well on Friday with introducing some bright and funky prints to my wardrobe. Trudie is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to vintage, and I really look forward to learning more in future ventures with her.

Unfortunately, I only realised when I left her house late that afternoon that Trudie and I hadn't taken a single photo all day long - not even an outfit picture to post on the blog! Here I was all excited to meet a fellow blogger and I forgot all about doing what a blogger does best! Oh well, you will just have to use your imaginations as to what we looked like on the day! I'll give you a hint though - Trudie looked amazing in a flowy, red maxi which accommodated her growing, pregnant tum.

Now onto the day's haul! I did quite well at the op shops last Friday, if I do say so myself. Since moving to the coast, I haven't really found any op shops that I really liked. If Trudie didn't live right up the opposite end, I'd be half tempted to steal her secret spots ;)

This colourful dress is by The Dress Company. It's got a tapered skirt with pockets and sits beautifully when on. A bargain at $3.25!

This is the top part of a maxi-length night gown which Trudie found hidden in the rack at a Lifeline store. It's so beautiful ad soft with the delicate embroidery around the neck. I'm intending on wearing it as a dress. $8

The embroidery on this green chiffon blouse is gorgeous, as is the ruffled neck. Perfect paired with dark jeans for a dressy casual look. $6

Last but not least, the gorgeous Japanese vintage frock which Trudie gifted to me out of her personal collection. I absolutely adore this dress and have already worn it! It got so many compliments, that I couldn't help but to see the merits of broadening my pastel wardrobe to include a bit of colour.

Since I didn't get any pictures of my outfit while I was with Trudie here is a quick little instagram of me wearing the frock that Trudie gifted to me. Thank you so much, Trudie for such a wonderful day on Friday. I really hope that we can do it again soon!

Life Lately: Crystal Castle

Last Wednesday, before I bunged up my knee, I headed over to my friend Ellie's place for a pot of tea and a catch up. Since we are both currently living in different cities doing uni, we have been hard pressed to find time to catch up with each other, so this little get together while we were both home for Easter was much needed and appreciated. Plus, being the poor uni students that we are, catching up at her house was super nice on the wallet. Or so we thought it would be!

As with most "quick little catch ups" that Ellie and I have, we had wayyyy to much to talk about and ended up emptying that tea pot pretty quickly! So, naturally, we decided to extend our catch up to a day out and some lunch, and so headed out into the Byron hinterland to Crystal Castle.

I have no idea how we ended up deciding to go to Crystal Castle, but I sure am glad we did! It was absolutely beautiful out there, and the food in the little cafe was delicious! Ellie and I were absolutely gobsmacked at the prices of the crystals and were half tempted to bring the boys back there at night to pinch a few of the big ones they had just lying around the place. I settled for just buying a few of the little half priced ones in the shop instead.

True to the spirit of this hippy land we live in, the Crystal Castle was a deeply spiritual place, although the booming prayer voices suddenly coming out of hidden speakers around the place did little more to Ellie and I than freak us out! You could say that we are a little too rational for the hippy mumbo-jumbo I guess! Nonetheless, the beautiful big crystals around the place, the many different statues of buddhas and various other godly creatures were totally awe-inspiring. It was such a beautiful place!

Thank You!

Sending out a great, big, virtual hug to all of my lovely followers right now! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my posts and just for generally being awesome! I can't believe I have reached the 50 followers mark with GFC. You guys are amazing and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all so much better in the future! Seriously, one of the biggest reasons for me to start this blog was to connect with other like-minded people, so don't be afraid to say hello :) I love a chat almost as much as I love a good cup of tea (which is A LOT).

Aaaaand, here's another hug because you guys make me smiley on the inside and I couldn't choose which gif to use:

Happy Birthday To Me!

Yesterday was my 19th birthday... woah, 19!!! It seems like this last year has just flown by. There is no way that I feel a year older than I did this time last year (if that makes any sense?).

I got spoilt rotten, especially by my amazing boyfriend - just look at the chunk of gold that now lives on my finger!

Even though I had to work in the morning, I had a great day topped off by a beautiful dinner with family and friends.

Lately I have been feeling so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people. It's probaly the first time since I was little that I have been so content with who I am and the people I surround myself with. If that is a product of maturing and growing older - bring it on! It feels so good to love the person I am growing to be, and to know that I am surrounded by people who love me for me.
