Casual Spring Outfit

Lately I have been thinking a lot more about how I dress and what style clothes I want to be wearing. Style is a funny old thing, and I find that unlike some people, I'm not attracted to any one particular style of dressing, but rather like to adapt my style to my mood, the weather and where I'll be going that day. As is begins to warm up here in Australia, I'm finding myself particularly attracted to clean, crisp colours, small details on colour blocked outfits and chiffon. The other direction I find myself dressing in is a floaty, bohemian style which very much suits the leisurely lifestyle in my beachy hometown, and then of course there is my perpetual love of vintage silhouettes and florals.

This outfit very much fits in with the clean, crisp look that I've been adopting lately, aside from the crystal around my neck, which I bought using a $50 voucher I recently won in Christina Lowry Designs' Facebook competition. These white shorts are probably my most worn piece of clothing at the moment, as I am willing the summer weather to really set in. I had my first beach day on the last day of September, and you may notice in these photos, I'm a little bit sunburnt on the front, and bright red (and in tonnes of pain) on the back of my legs. It makes a great (albeit unwanted) contrast with the white shorts, but hopefully it will turn to tan soon.

Details:
Top: Temt
Shorts: Valleygirl
Shoes: Big W
Bag: Custom made leather in Bali (thanks mum)
All Other Jewellery: My regular, every day stuff, gifted

I've been wanting to share outfit photos on here for as long as I've been blogging, and I'm incredibly glad I've finally done it, even if I've just used iPhone photos and it's only a casual outfit. As my style (or styles) develop, I want to document that on the blog, become more confident in the way I dress, and share comfortable, everyday outfits that are easy and cheap to recreate, because as much as I love fashion blogs, there is nothing more depressing than not being able to afford the clothes that the people who write them are wearing. I wore this outfit today to meet a friend for coffee in my hometown and I felt incredibly put together despite only being in casual clothes. We had a great chat, talking wedding stuff (hers is coming up in April) and planning ways to convince Jake to move to Evans Head with me and join the rugby club with her fiancé. Our partners have been good friends since before we met and I am really keen for him to get more involved socially in things in Evans Head, because as much as I love Lennox it's just way too out of our price range and Evans Head will always be home. What do you think of this casual style? Are you a one style kinda gal, or like me, do you match your style to your mood?

Classy for Christmas*

Wearing:
Lindley dress: c/o Joules
Shoes: unknown (they were my formal shoes 2 years ago)
Necklace: Equip
Bangle: mum's
Ring: gift from Jake

This beautiful dress from Joules clothing arrived in my mail box just in time for the Christmas season! Already I have worn it to a work Christmas party and I was so pleased with how well fitting and comfortable it is.I honestly felt so beautiful and classy the whole night!

For me, this is the perfect dress for the holiday season. Being navy, it does stray from traditional Christmas colours a little, but the subtle gold pattern on the dress glinting under soft light still made me feel really festive! The classic cut of the dress totally sells it to me. I find it really flattering for my figure and think it is exactly the sort of classy yet comfortable dress my wardrobe was missing. I also really have to commend the quality of this dress. It feels so luxurious on and mum and I went over the seams (as you do when you're sewing nutters) and I honestly couldn't find a single fault on the whole garment.  Massive thanks to Joules for giving me something pretty to wear this season, and for many seasons to come!

Also making a debut on the blog today is my new fringe! I really wanted a full fringe, but my stupid cowlick won't allow for it, so the best friend/hair dresser and I settled for a side fringe instead. It has been years since I had a fringe, but I love the way it frames my face.

I hope you all are having a lovely start to December. Tell me, how do you plan on dressing for Christmassy events in the coming weeks? Will you be in traditional Christmas colours, or will you stray from the red, gold and green a little like I have? Happy Holidays!

Things I Love Tuesday v.1

I've decided that "Love From the Interwebs" doesn't really cut it as a feature, because from time to time, I may want to share other things with you all. So, after just one week, this little feature has been renamed and given a new breath of life. And on to the things...

I am LOVING the fact that Tommy Franklin, AKA Salty Rain Man, AKA Byron Bay's very own Dancing Man got into the finals of Australia's Got Talent. For years Tommy has been putting smiles on the faces of everyone who has the pleasure of seeing him dancing around Byron Bay, and I'm so glad that he is able to spread those smiles to everyone in Australia. Check out and the Splendour in the Grass ad that he was the star of here, and I dare you not to smile while you watch!

Kaelah's DIY Geometric Glitter Wall is to die for! Ever since seeing this, I go to bed at night wondering how the heck I'm going to convince Jake to let me do this one day. He has already agreed happily to make me the tea cup lights from this post, so I don't want to push my luck!

Everything about this outfit. Oh, also - the fact that I am finally feeling comfortable and confident with my personal style. Girly florals, pastels, frills and all!

Ella, the Queen of Cake, made a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I am so excited to give the recipe a go!

Pastel hair. Especially this shade of pink.

Harry Potter Meme of the Week:

This one was picked out especially for Becky.

Also Loving:

♥ This open letter to Miley Cyrus by AriZona Iced Tea is absolutely freaking amaze balls.
♥ I got a cute little email today telling me that I won a 25 pound (I don't have the symbol for it on my Aussie keyboard) voucher to The Oriental Magpie in Erica's Birthday Giveaway!
♥ This is the most beautiful HONY story ever!
♥ Lipstick and nail polish - my two new obsessions thanks to blogging, and especially thanks to Ella.
♥ Oh, and only 11 more days until I get to move home!!!

What I Wore: My Heart On My Sleeve

Ever since I bought this jumper from The Briar Rose Blog Sale, it has become a staple in my wardrobe! It is the first new piece of clothing I have bought myself in a while, and I somehow managed to convince myself to buy something practical that I needed from Megan's blog sale, instead of all the pretty things that caught my eye, which I am proud of! It was no mean feat (I mean, you've seen the clothes she wears, right?) but I am so, so glad for it because it has been bloody freezing Down Under lately, and this cute little heart jumper always brightens an otherwise bleary day.

On Friday night, Jake had a few friends come up to our place and we all headed out to Timezone, which is a games arcade, for a spot of Laser Tag and Ten Pin Bowling
. I was a little nervous about this outing, because the girls that were coming up were people that I didn't know, and so planning an outfit was a bit of a pain. I tend to have an incredibly cutesy, girly style which sometimes leads to me not being taken very serious by new people that I meet but in the end I decided bullocks to bitchiness, I was dressing how I wanted and they'd just have to like me the way I am. Damn that took courage, but I am over worrying about people's opinions!

It was absolutely freezing when we left, and blowing a gale so I actually have leggings underneath my tights to keep me extra warm I am also wearing a singlet and long sleeve shirt under the jumper. It is so rare to be this rugged up in Autumn in Australia. I'm not quite sure what the weather is playing at, because we normally only get one really cold month a year up north here. Please excuse the fact I am not wearing shoes, but we didn't have time to take photos before we left, and when we got back my boots were wet and muddy, so I left them at the door. Also excuse the bad lighting and poses, because these pictures were actually taken at midnight! I wasn't about to miss the opportunity of having someone there to take outfit pics though, was I? It's something I really want to get into more, but alas, I rarely have the opportunity!

What I Wore:
Heart Jumper - Krisp (Out of Stock)
Skirt - ICE (Similar)
Woollen tights - I forget (bought 4 years ago)
Rose hair clip - Home made

Polka dot bubble romper

A couple of weeks ago, Whimsy Couture had a massive pattern sale on Etsy where they were selling four patterns for $20. That's like getting four patterns for the price of two!!!

I took mega advantage of this sale by buying the criss cross tunic pattern, the shirred bubble romper pattern (I'm obsessed with shirring right now - so cute and fun!), the twirl knot dress pattern which I first saw on girl. Inspired. And the sleeves and straps pattern (such a great addition to any pattern collection!).

Here is the first thing I have made from my new little collection of Whimsy Couture patterns - the shirred bubble romper.

I found this fabric in the remnants bin at spotlight super cheap and thought it was absolutely perfect to make something for a little bubba out of!

I absolutely love how the bubble romper turned out. The Whimsy Couture Patterns are so easy to follow and super descriptive!

I added the shirred flutter sleeves from the sleeves and straps tutorial for extra cuteness and to make the polka for material seem more feminine, and up cycled this red bow from a costume I bought off eBay but never wore.

I love how this little outfit came together! It's a size 6 to 9 months and is now available to buy at The Corner Store in Evans Head.

I know I just finished this one, but I already have fabric in mind to make another gorgeous shirred bubble romper. I have a baby shower coming up to go to - maybe that could be my present?

Race Day Recap

Hi Everyone!

So, Friday was the Ballina Cup - our local horse racing day, and as promised here are some photos of the outfit I wore, including the fascinator I made especially for the occassion:

Please excuse the awkward lack of back-drop for these photos but I got my lovely boyfriend, Jake, to take them while I was at his house and this is the best we could do right then (he is definitely not that keen on taking 376925345 shots of me until I am content I have a nice one, nor is he keen to scout a "nice backdrop" when we are about to leave for dinner and he's hungry!)

and some of my hair, which my lovely sister, Shoni, did for me in the car out the front of the shopping centre where she was about to see a movie:

It was super windy on Friday, and I knew I'd be spending all day holding down my dress, so I opted for an up-do to keep my hair out of my eyes.

All in all it was a good day which could have been made even better if a) I was able to drink an alcoholic beverage or six, b) it wasn't so windy and c) I could find a bloody booky and place a bet! Oh well, I think the fascinator looked lovely and went with my outfit quite well and next time I know to make sure there are no family affairs I have to drive to afterwards and to wear a tight-fitting dress and bring a cardi!
