Life Lately// Taking Stock

My study buddy napping on my lap

I've been a crappy blog reader lately, and for that I apologise! I must admit, I hit "mark all as read" *gasp* after about 10 posts today because it is simply too hot to be bothered with reading ANYTHING and I have plenty of uni stuff to read when it cools down this evening (will it ever?) and don't need to be distracted. The posts I have read, I have been pretty slack at commenting on too, and again I apologise! I just don't have the patience to type in this heat AND IT'S ONLY OCTOBER, GOD HELP ME!

SO, that is why I am bringing you a sorta lazy blog post today that I found on Laura's blog. Although I did actually really enjoy reading hers, as I hope you do mine!

Making: Bunting for my friend's wedding
CookingBetty Crocker's Gluten Free Choloclate Fudge Brownies *drool*
Drinking: WATER! Seriously too easy to dehydrate in this heat. Plus, it cools you down for about 0.05 seconds.
Reading:The Night Circus for Sam's online book club!
Wanting: Spare time to go to the beach. And money, please!
Looking: For inspiration for my blog, and life in general, and motivation for uni and my business ventures.
Playing: The Kim Kardashian game. FML.
Deciding: On putting my heart and soul into my business ventures. I'm a pretty half-arses kinda person, so this is tough for me, even though it will pay off.
Wishing: The weather would be a bit cooler while I'm getting uni work done.
Enjoying: Days at the beach and time spent with Jake
Waiting: For my pay to go in
Liking: The jacaranda trees in full bloom.
Wondering: Whether I have what it takes.
Loving: Jake.
Pondering: My life choices.
Considering: Giving up some things and taking on some more
Watching: New season New Girl and Bones, season 9 of Criminal Minds
Hoping:I pass all my subjects this semester
Marvelling: At how our bodies work.
Needing: Money.
Smelling: Like strawberry essential oil
Wearing: As little clothing as possible.
Following: my nose
Noticing: all the little things I love about my hometown
Knowing: How to classify epithelial tissue (how useful)
Thinking: About the future
Admiring: Amy
Sorting: Out my finances.
Buying: Arbonne. All the Arbonne. Oh, and a new bikini hopefully!
Getting: fitter. I joined touch football and am learning to surf and doing yoga!
Bookmarking: nothing much.
Disliking: wearing a lab coat in sweltering heat.
Opening: textbooks
Giggling: so much this morning that the water I was drinking came out my nose
Feeling: uncertain and unconfident
Snacking: On frozen berries.
Coveting: A complete make up kit and a new car.
Helping: My cousin build her business.
Hearing: Anatomy and Physiology podcasts, mingled in with jack Johnson and Sticky Fingers.

What have you been ding lately?
Thanks for reading along xx

Big Decisions and not letting things stand in your way

For the past two years, I have been trying to convince myself that I want to be an English and History teacher. After my HSC results came in, I realized that all the time I had off school sick over the year had severely affected my marks and I would not be getting into any medicine or pre-med courses. I was a little bit heartbroken, but had been expecting it and knew it was for the better.

The hunt was on for a new career, and I had only a few short weeks to make a decision on what I was to do for the rest of my life. My marks for English and History had been really, really good and I enjoyed the subjects so much, but ever since I was a little girl I had wanted to be a doctor and I still had a real fascination with the medical world. My two conflicting interests were tearing me different ways and the two career paths I decided between were teaching and midwifery. The appeal of 10 weeks holidays a year and good hours tore me away from the medical profession I'd so long desired and I chose teaching.

I've now been studying literature, history and cultural studies for a year and a half, and while last year I enjoyed my studies immensely, changing to a new university this year has made me reconsider my career choice. I began to realize that I cannot picture myself standing up in front of a classroom for the rest of my life, and that I'm not challenged by the course work (a good thing for some but apparently I'm a weirdo who likes things to be hard?).

So, after a few months of thinking, research and countless episodes watched of The Midwives and One Born Every Minute (they seriously need to make some Aussie midwife shows!) I have finally decided to change to midwifery! I put in my application yesterday and have already been accepted into nursing (which was my second choice and has the exact same first year subjects as midwifery) to start next semester! I have to wait to see what my marks are this semester before I find out if I also got into the Bachelor of Midwifery but I'm super excited anyway because I know I'm going to be able to do it whether I need to transfer again from nursing or not!

A big part of the reason I have spent 2 years trying to convince myself to be a teacher is my health. Even now, my close family and friends are concerned with how I will cope with night shifts and such physical work with lupus but I had to take the chance and make this decision. I may have lupus, but why should I let it control such an important decision in my life? I may not ever be able to work full time in my profession due to my illness, but the same goes for teaching as well. On the other hand, I could go into remission in a few years and if I hadn't taken this chance, I could really regret not following my dreams.

I can't think of anything more magical than helping to bring new life into the world everyday as a profession. Being a midwife would be more than just a job to me. It would be a privilege to help women bring their babies safely earth side and I am very excited for my new career path!

Back in the saddle

Well hello there beautiful readers! I hope you had a fantastic holiday season and a splendid start to 2014. I wasn't planning on not blogging over Christmas, but you know, sometimes life is just so great you don't have to hide behind a computer screen! The last few weeks have been so busy for me and I have really enjoyed just living in the moment and forgetting all about taking photos of everything and blogging. I have missed this little outlet though, and have plenty of ideas for posts and projects as I settle into the New Year, but I thought I'd start today with recapping what I've been up to since you last heard from me.

Just two days before Christmas, I had a birthday! The day was absolutely perfect, too. I woke up to receive the most gorgeous gifts from my little sister who spoiled me rotten and spent the majority of the day with my beautiful best friend who drove down from the Gold Coast to spend the day with me. We exchanged Christmas and birthday gifts (she spoiled me rotten as well), had a yummy lunch where I introduced her to oysters, gossiped, ate ice cream and I swear when it was time for her to go I nearly cried! She is the most awesome human on the planet and I wish we lived closer! The rest of the afternoon was spent with family and other close friends. I was brought to tears by how perfectly my family and friends know me, by their beautiful cards and gifts and by he massive bunches of flowers which I found adorning my house while we shared a delicious dinner together. My main present from mum, dad and Jake still hasn't arrived yet, but by the time the day was through I had honestly almost forgotten how excited I was to get it - the day had been so perfect that nothing could ruin my happiness.

Christmas went way too quickly, in my opinion! Going from mum and dads , to nan's, and then on to Jake's, I really felt like we didn't get enough time with anyone on Christmas day. The food was absolutely fantastic though, and I swear I ate enough for four people at each house we went to. Christmas afternoon was especially amazing to me. Jake bought his niece a heap of kites and he and his brother stood on the verandah flying them while Molly and I watched from below. Because I lived on the Gold Coast for the better part of last year, Molly and I haven't really had the chance to get close and she has always been a little shy with me but Christmas day was a whole new experience for the two of us. She decided to be my new best friend, leading me around the house with her, nuzzling into my neck for cuddles when it was way past her nap time and sharing grapes and cherries with me which she brought over two and three at a time from the fruit bowl. Spending such quality time with family made Christmas day magnificent in my opinion.

Jake has had three weeks off over Christmas and it has been amazing being able to spend time together through the week. Weekends go way too quickly, so I've enjoyed actually seeing him every day for the last little while. Plus, we bought a massive TV and it's awesome.

I've been super lucky to actually get to see my best friend, Darci, twice more since my birthday! These photos were taken in a Photo Booth when Jake and I went on a burger eating and arcade game playing adventure with Darci and her boyfriend, Alex the other night. We had a great time and it's awesome knowing that even though we no longer live close by we still get to see each other often. Next Tuesday I'll be back up there again to indulge in shopping and Disney movies and I can't wait!

Well, there you have it. What I've been up to the past few weeks! Hope you found it at least a little bit interesting and I would love to hear how you have spent the holiday season. I conveniently left out the part about drunkenly singing songs about sausage rolls on New Years Eve, but I'd love to hear your New Years anecdotes!

A Health Update: Spilling my heart out

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you will know that I suffer from quite severe health troubles, with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, aching joints and muscles and possible the worst immune system in the world. In fact, if you have been reading for a long while, you will probably also know that this blog was born out of my illness, in a time where I desperately needed something to fill the days when I was too sick to work.

Well, I have moved forward in leaps and bounds since first encountering these troubles and so has my blog, but it hasn't been without struggle and my heath problems certainly have not gone away. I wake up in pain every single morning. Some days, this pain goes away after an hour or so. Other days it stays with me all day. I have trouble walking up the stairs because my knees ache and I am tired all the time. There are days when I simply can not get out of bed and even blogging seems too hard. I'm sorry for the length of this post, but I feel it's important for you to know what's going on in my life as dedicated readers, and I have a lot that I need to get off my chest regarding how my health is lately.

Lately, there have been a lot of these days. My condition isn't one that can easily be treated and so for the last year and a half I have been doing my best to learn to manage it and to build up my stamina so that I can go to uni, work and basically just live a full life. These uni holidays have been a real test of my endurance, as I have been working in child care which is very strenuous work and testing how many days of work a week I can cope with. I find I can do four if I have a break in the middle, but I end up needing quiet days on the Wednesday and Saturday if I do. Three is ideal for me right now. It gives me enough money to save a little these holidays, while not tiring me out too much or taking too much of a toll on my body.

My symptoms have gotten gradually worse, especially over the last 6 months as I have struggled to cope with aching muscles and joints, fatigue, loss of appetite, a poor immune system and hair breakage and loss. My specialist appointment last week was both much dreaded and much anticipated and I was torn between hope for a diagnosis and treatment and fear of what the gradual worsening of my symptoms might mean for my future.

I left the specialist's office with confused feelings as well. Relieved to finally have a name for the condition I've struggled with for three and a half years now, dread of what that one little word means for my health and anxiety over what it means for my future. It took me a good while in a coffee shop to sort out my feelings enough to even be capable of driving home, and a good while longer to accept that it is possible I will be on medication now for the rest of my life. The diagnosis I was given is that of Systematic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) which I suppose you could Google if you wished (although please don't let it scare you too much. I would recommend this website for a good understanding of what it is) and it is a lot for me to deal with right now, so I would really appreciate your support and understanding on the blog. It is a scary thought for a girl of 19 to be on long-term treatment for a disease which cripples my ability to live like a normal teenager, but I am thankful that we have caught it early and that my treatment may prevent my symptoms from getting any worse than they already are. I am also thankful we are able to use a very low level treatment for now and that so far, I haven't felt any side effects from this treatment.

The hardest part for me, is trying to instil some sort of understanding of my condition in my family and friends. When you look normal on the outside, it is hard for people to understand what is going on inside you and I am really struggling with things like making my parents understand that some days I am not up to doing anything other than sitting on the couch, as they mistake this for laziness more often than not, not realising exactly how exhausted I might be, or that I may have woken up in severe pain that morning which just has not gone away. Because pain is an everyday thing for me, I try not to complain about it. It's become a part of my everyday life and so my family doesn't always realise the extent of my illness or what it does to my body. I try to communicate with them, but it is so hard to get across what I am feeling at any particular time. Sometimes the best I can do is to say "I'm feeling really sore today" when really I want to say "I'm floppy tired with sore joints and tingly-sore arms and legs which click painfully every time I move and I honestly do not think I can move right now", a perplexing description of the fatigue and aches and pains I experience every morning, which sometimes lasts the day.

I am also really scared of what this diagnosis means for my relationship with Jake. I know he loves me very, very much and I know he tries to understand my illness and cater for my needs, but sometimes when I don't feel up to doing something he really wants to do, or going somewhere he really wants to go, he gets a little cross with me, later admitting, "You look so normal, babe. Sometimes I forget about your lupus and forget how tired you get and how much pain you're in."He is such an adventurous person with a love of extreme sport and I want so badly to share in his adventures and passions. A lot of the time though, I simply do not have the energy.

Compromising on adventures - driving to Mt Tambourine for a little bit of shopping,
fine food and a rainforest walk.

I can't say I'm not worried for our future and that I'm not worried about what this means for our relationship, but I do hold out hope that we can reach some sort of middle ground with this - going for bike rides together, swimming at the beach, the odd day at a theme park or the water slides and I have made myself a pact to always try to do something super fun with him on days when I'm feeling good - learning to surf, rides on the motorbike, go karting and learning to kite board are reserved for these days. A big part of me trying to make up for what I can't do with Jake is watching him do his favourite sports while lounging with a book so that he feels my presence and support without me doing anything physically exerting. All things considered though, Since my specialist appointment I do spend a fair bit of time scared out of my wits that he is going to leave me for some hot, sporty bitch on a motorbike someday, and madly trying to shake off my doubts that he can stick with me through this illness, whatever it may bring.

I am also worried about how my illness could progress, and what affect this might have on my personal relationships. What happens if my lupus starts attacking my organs, or if my body rejects my babies and I miscarry someday? Where is my life going if this illness is going to be ever-present within it and how will we all cope? I try not to think of the worst case scenarios here, but the idea of kidney transplants and miscarriages are always at the back of my mind and sometimes I worry more about how Jake and my family would cope with this than how I will.

I'm sorry to dump on you all like this, but I needed to get this off my chest. It is too much of a burden to carry alone and the weight is already leaving my shoulders as I write this. You have all always been so supportive of me, and I appreciate you all so much. If you've been through something similar, I would love to hear from you. With lupus being more common than AIDS, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis combined and with no known cause or treatment, I could use a good chat with other people who suffer from the illness. I find it hard to talk to family and friends because it's just so hard for them to understand. Also, if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them and please don't be afraid to ask. Thanks for sticking with me through this post guys, I know it was a long one!

Quality Time

I love spending quality time with Jake! Last week was a very emotional and heart-breaking week for me, where I really need to just focus on my family and the personal crises which we were going through at the time (not really uplifting blog material, so I'll leave it at that). He couldn't be with me at my parents' place through the week due to work commitments so come Sunday, I was really craving some quality time with my man!
Killen Falls

Jake and I decided that it was the perfect day for a picnic and a swim, but since it was so hot at the beach, and we didn't have a beach umbrella, we decided to take a trip out to Killen Falls instead for a romantic picnic and a dip in the waterhole. We sat up under the rock ledge at the base of the waterfall enjoying the view and munching on fish and chips and cheese and biscuits with a cool lemon, lime and bitters in hand for the better part of the afternoon. The atmosphere at the waterfall was so nice, and sitting under the rock ledge was nice and cool in the heat of the day. We watched turtles swim around on the surface, and fish jump out of the water, with their scales glinting in the sun. We talked, we laughed and just really got to appreciate the beautiful place we live in. Both of us wondered why we don't go out to Killen Falls more often - it is only 10 minutes away, after all!

Quick instagram photo to document a nice day

In the end, we decided against swimming in the icy cold, fresh water and headed home around 5, lapping up the benefits of the first day of daylight savings. Spending time just chilling out like that was so great! we both had such a fantastic day that when we woke up on Monday morning, we decided to do it all again, but at the beach that time! Hooray for long weekends, secret deserted beaches, pretty waterfalls and my first big swim where I stayed in for longer than 5 minutes of the season!
Jake at The Point a week or so ago. The Secret Beach is behind his head :)

Jake and I will definitely be going back to The Secret Beach and Killen Falls regularly this summer. Do you have any special spots around where you live where you like to chill out with a significant other?

The Last Week On Earth

Okay, so it's not really my last week on Earth, but last week was the last week of my uni holidays, and I don't quite know how to feel about that. On the one hand, I am so excited for everything this semester at uni has to offer me, but on the other I just know that by week 2 I will be swamped with assignments and feeling hellish. Anyway, I just thought I'd recap my last week of holidays for you, because some pretty big and emotional things have happened, and that is why last week felt like my very last week on Earth!

How can I put this? Ummm..... My housemate can no longer move in with me, and told me this two days before my lease ran out and then I panicked, and my boyfriend panicked and now if I don't find somewhere on the Gold Coast to live in the next three weeks, I have to move back in with my parents and drive two hours each way to uni, three days a week!

There, said it. Now I can breathe.

You can only imagine the emotions I felt upon hearing this news. I was distraught because I didn't know what to do, and I was panicked. I think I have had three panic attacks since Wednesday, and I have had to basically continuously do breathing exercises to calm myself down. The thought of packing all my stuff is so overwhelming, and the thought of leaving this unit just as it has started feeling like home is just destroying me. When I thought I was going to have to move back to mum and dad's I was lamenting the loss of freedom that would come with living with my family again, and I was dreading telling my boss that I had to leave work, because I really, really love my job!

Thankfully, when I turned up at work yesterday and told my boss my news, at first she was upset, but quickly she resolved that she would find me a place to live come hell or high water, and if I didn't find anywhere by the time my three weeks were up, I'd be moving in with her! Strangely, the fact that I had three whole weeks before I really had to panic didn't sink in until that moment, ad the fact that yes, it is possible I will find somewhere really came to light! Her reaction to my news made me feel good. I would be missed if I left work, and I had actual hope of finding a place to live, so what was I panicking about?

Yesterday afternoon, I watched a good friend of mine compete in a modelling competition (which he WON!) and went out to All You Can Eat Pizza Hut with him and a bunch of his friends from uni who I'd never met before to celebrate. They were lovely, lovely people and I am so glad I finally got a chance to meet them. We had a great time, and so some of us decided it would be a great idea to go out in Surfers Paradise last night to mourn the end of the holidays, even though most of them had uni this morning, bright and early. Even though I didn't have uni, I offered to be deso driver so that I could make sure everyone got home alright and would make it to uni this morning (quack quack, mother duck!). Also, because I live furthest south of everyone, and so would have to drive past all their houses to get home anyway, and I was determined to get home so I could sleep in my own bed! At first i wasn't going to go at all, but Grady insisted that he wanted to do whatever I wanted to do, but I knew he would like to go out, so I gave in. Well, turns out that going out was the best idea that anyone had all night, because I had a ball, and when we met up with other people at the clubs, and I got talking to one girl in particular, I actually found a potential place to live! I'm going to check out her place tomorrow afternoon after uni, and I'm so excited about it! Plus, because it's the smallest room in the house, if I rent it I get the garage to myself as well, and I'm going to deck it out as a combined lounge room/sewing room. Yep, I'm already planning, and I'm planning a bit of redecorating in my bedroom as well when the move takes place. I'm really hoping all goes well when I meet the girl's house mate tomorrow and that I like the room, because it's less than 10 minutes away from uni, and I really don't want to move back in to mum and dad's place!

Wish me luck for tomorrow. Things have just started looking up after a hellish week of uncertainty, and I'd really like to continue along this path. What have you been up to this past week? Have you had holidays where you live?

I Said Hey, What's Goin' on?

Hi guys, this is just a quick update post to tell you all what I'm up to and why you haven't heard boo out of me most of this week!

I"m currently down the coast flitting between Mum and Dad's and Jake's place, because it's my uni holidays (huzzah!), I've been missing them, I'm avoiding house work and food shopping at home (mwa ha ha) and Jake's sister has come up from Gosford (which is about 8 hours away) with her new little bubba and so I have been playing aunty all week, clucking like a chook over how gorgeous she is, how good she is and how great Jake is with her. Those bloody hormones! I cannot afford a baby right now, uterus! Behave yourself!

It doesn't help that Jake's sister has been really gracious with letting me help her with the baby, and I actually seem to be quite good at it. I mean, I know I worked with babies all of last year in the child care centre, but it just seems so different in an at-home setting, without strict rules and regulations and charts and what-not, and with the attentive mother and grandmother watching every move I make. She hasn't cried once while I've been holding her, or tending to her though which is awesome!

Okay, reigning in my uterus, what else has been going on?

The days aren't this light and airy anymore!

Well IT'S BLOODY COLD HERE for a start! Winter has finally arrived in full force here in Australia and I'm practically dying. I was not made for the cold, and winter has come as a huge shock in Australia this year. One day it's a balmy 23 degrees and the next - BAM! It's 12. Australia isn't very good with seasons. It get's pretty jumbled and confuses us poor Aussies so much! Thankfully, I have had copious amounts of tea on hand to warm my belly, and have taken up my winter tradition again for the year of reading the Harry Potter series over. I'm currently up to the fourth book (my favourite) and I swear I love it just as much this time as the first time I read it. So many emotions!

I also had an AMAZING (yes, all the emphases were required) day at the op shops the other day which I was hoping to blog about today. Just the cheer up I needed after having six phials of blood taken at the pathologist beforehand, as it saw me start a new collection, help a friend with her growing business and it could even possibly be the start of something new on the Little Foal horizon! Not saying any more at present, but vintage lovers be warned!

I was planning on doing a Friday's Finds post today to show off my amazing score, but I have a whole carload of stuff to show you, and it's pouring and gloomy and not a good day to be taking photos of things! I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to change the name of my finds post so it's applicable for any day of the week.

This is our cold face!

Well, I started this post at like, 1pm and now it's 6:40pm. I don't think I've ever taken so long to write a post! To be fair though, I spent the last 5 hours with my good friend, Alisha who I rarely get to see. We ate apple pie, drank hot Milo and whinged about the cold. All in all, a great catch up I would say!

I hope the sun is shining wherever you are, and hopefully over the next few weeks I will be spending a little more time at home, and will be able to get into some sort of routine or something. My new housemate is moving in on the 25th or thereabouts. She's a photographer, so I see some outfit photos on the horizon!

Op Shop Adventures With Trudie

On Friday, I was lucky enough to get to spend the day with a great blog friend of mine, Trudie from My Vintage Childhood, and her gorgeous daughter, Little V. Trudie has been a great supporter of my blog since it's beginning, and I have been anxious to meet her ever since moving to the Gold Coast, where I knew she lived. Despite the age gap, I felt right at home with Trudie on Friday. We chatted like old friends, visited a few of her favourite op shops and I got a tour of her office and a sneaky peek at all the stock she has ready for her Etsy store, which is coming soon and will be selling some very beautiful vintage children's clothes at affordable prices.

It was so great to finally meet a fellow blogger in person! No one quite "gets" a blogger like another blogger does and it was great to take our friendship out into the "real world" and chat about blog stuff, PR, vintage and all other manner of things which I couldn't really chat to my non-blog friends about. It was also great to have an op shop partner for the day! Not many of my real life friends are into op shopping or vintage, so it was great to have someone to chat with over the clothes racks, and to encourage me to step out of my comfort zone and try a few things on. Trudie is set on converting me to a colour-lover as far as my wardrobe goes, and she certainly did well on Friday with introducing some bright and funky prints to my wardrobe. Trudie is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to vintage, and I really look forward to learning more in future ventures with her.

Unfortunately, I only realised when I left her house late that afternoon that Trudie and I hadn't taken a single photo all day long - not even an outfit picture to post on the blog! Here I was all excited to meet a fellow blogger and I forgot all about doing what a blogger does best! Oh well, you will just have to use your imaginations as to what we looked like on the day! I'll give you a hint though - Trudie looked amazing in a flowy, red maxi which accommodated her growing, pregnant tum.

Now onto the day's haul! I did quite well at the op shops last Friday, if I do say so myself. Since moving to the coast, I haven't really found any op shops that I really liked. If Trudie didn't live right up the opposite end, I'd be half tempted to steal her secret spots ;)

This colourful dress is by The Dress Company. It's got a tapered skirt with pockets and sits beautifully when on. A bargain at $3.25!

This is the top part of a maxi-length night gown which Trudie found hidden in the rack at a Lifeline store. It's so beautiful ad soft with the delicate embroidery around the neck. I'm intending on wearing it as a dress. $8

The embroidery on this green chiffon blouse is gorgeous, as is the ruffled neck. Perfect paired with dark jeans for a dressy casual look. $6

Last but not least, the gorgeous Japanese vintage frock which Trudie gifted to me out of her personal collection. I absolutely adore this dress and have already worn it! It got so many compliments, that I couldn't help but to see the merits of broadening my pastel wardrobe to include a bit of colour.

Since I didn't get any pictures of my outfit while I was with Trudie here is a quick little instagram of me wearing the frock that Trudie gifted to me. Thank you so much, Trudie for such a wonderful day on Friday. I really hope that we can do it again soon!

Life Lately: Crystal Castle

Last Wednesday, before I bunged up my knee, I headed over to my friend Ellie's place for a pot of tea and a catch up. Since we are both currently living in different cities doing uni, we have been hard pressed to find time to catch up with each other, so this little get together while we were both home for Easter was much needed and appreciated. Plus, being the poor uni students that we are, catching up at her house was super nice on the wallet. Or so we thought it would be!

As with most "quick little catch ups" that Ellie and I have, we had wayyyy to much to talk about and ended up emptying that tea pot pretty quickly! So, naturally, we decided to extend our catch up to a day out and some lunch, and so headed out into the Byron hinterland to Crystal Castle.

I have no idea how we ended up deciding to go to Crystal Castle, but I sure am glad we did! It was absolutely beautiful out there, and the food in the little cafe was delicious! Ellie and I were absolutely gobsmacked at the prices of the crystals and were half tempted to bring the boys back there at night to pinch a few of the big ones they had just lying around the place. I settled for just buying a few of the little half priced ones in the shop instead.

True to the spirit of this hippy land we live in, the Crystal Castle was a deeply spiritual place, although the booming prayer voices suddenly coming out of hidden speakers around the place did little more to Ellie and I than freak us out! You could say that we are a little too rational for the hippy mumbo-jumbo I guess! Nonetheless, the beautiful big crystals around the place, the many different statues of buddhas and various other godly creatures were totally awe-inspiring. It was such a beautiful place!

Where have I been? Never a dull moment, is there?

I have been on a bit of a blogging hiatus for the last two weeks, and here is my explanation. Last week I came down with the most horrible flu - fevers, sore throat, headaches, no sleep. It was the worst! I was completely bedridden up until Saturday and am still not feeling quite right. My house was a disaster zone, I was having major troubles with looking after myself because I had zero energy and there was no food to be found anywhere. Thankfully, my mum and sister came to the rescue by coming up on Thursday night and stocking the cupboards, looking after me and doing all my cleaning for me. Seriously, it's times like those where only a mummy hug does the trick and I'm so lucky to have such a great mum who will drop everything to be here for me.

Jake came up too, on Friday afternoon and he was totally amazing what with me being sick and everything. It never ceases to amaze me how great he is when my health isn't quite up there. He really comes into his own then and shows me how much he cares. I don't think there's anything that guy wouldn't do for me. To show my appreciation of him and my sister (who is a total germophobe but came and helped me out anyway), I shouted them to see the new GI Joe movie on Saturday afternoon when I was feeling strong enough to venture out of the house. It was a good movie but Shoni and I were devastated by the lack of Channing Tatum screen-time (completely understandable, right?) and then we all headed out to dinner at this cheap little Italian place in Cooly which had totally delicious food for $15 for two courses!

Sunday, we headed down to Lennox for Easter and that is where I have been for the last 5 days. With no Internet. I managed to catch up with some friends and family while I was down home, having an impromptu sleepover with one of my besties and my gorgeous cousin who I miss very much since moving up here, and going to the Crystal Castle with my other bestie yesterday for a bit of a frolic and a catch up, which I will tell you about tomorrow ;)

It was also Jake's birthday yesterday and I made him a delicious cake to have after a nice, quiet family dinner. He worked all day (poor thing) so we decided to keep everything low-key with just me, his parents and his brother in on the celebrations. That gave the two of us time to hit the beach in the afternoon for a spot of kiteboarding before tea, which is always interesting to say the least.

There wasn't quite enough wind for Jake to actually get on the board on his relatively small, 7m kite, so he asked if I wanted a turn. I wasn't really in the mood, especially since I'm still not feeling 100% but he reminded me that I'll never get the hang of it if I don't practice, so I gave in and hooked myself into a harness. Last time I went with him, I got dragged 20m down the beach when I lost control of the kite, so this time I made him hold onto the back of me to keep me grounded. I started off okay, keeping the kite in the air and moving pretty well, but then I got a little over-confident. The kite was choking a little because I had the lines too tight, so I gave it a little turn to keep it in the sky. Then it was straight up over my head (too high), so I gave it another little tug to get it back down where I could see it. Unfortunately for me, kites are extremely sensitive, and get their pulling power by you turning them and I turned this kite a little too hard and fast. I got absolutely wrenched up into the air, and out of Jake's reach, then, as the kite plummeted back down to Earth, so did I, thumping down onto the hard sand. I was in so. much. pain! It was shooting up into my legs from my knees, and somehow I managed to roll over and sit up while still attached to the kite, where I rocked back and forth until I got over the shock of my landing.

Jake wasn't very sympathetic at first, since I landed the kite in the dunes, but once he realised I was hurt he was absolutely guilt-ridden and oozing sympathy. He got me unhooked, and packed away the kite, which seemed to take absolutely forever, then he helped me into the car and got me home to ice and elevate my right knee which was absolutely pounding by this stage! I felt soooo bad that it was his birthday and he was forced to wait on me with my gimp leg, but he barely minded at all. Today I woke up radiating pain from both knees, my left hip and my right rib cage and decided I deserved a lie-in before I headed home. I am pretty sure a doctor's visit is in order tomorrow, as my leg is killing me and it's so swollen I'm not quite sure what to do :/

So there - that is why I have been absent from blog land lately. Not a worry though - I have plenty of ideas zapping through my mind to keep you sated over the next week or so, so check back again tomorrow for a little more on the Crystal Castle!

What did you do this Easter? I hope your break was less painful and sickly than mine was!
